What inspired you to create the Brighton Icons and what are they?

“The Brighton Icons are a set of visual artworks created in a loose pencil and colour style that describe Brighton's best and most well known landmarks and venues. The visual style puts me in mind of a pre-camera era Brighton visitor drawing a set of images as a momento of their stay."

"They were originally commissioned by the Brighton and Hove Tourism Alliance to be placed on a huge hand drawn 3D style map of Brighton that I created. It is now in place as a permanent wayfinding map exhibit next to the Brighton station ticket office. The icons have proved very popular and are now also on view on the side of a building also at Brighton station on the train platform to and from London. From an artist point of view this is very exciting as they're the first things visitors see when they arrive and the last thing they see as they leave the city. Hopefully people will become so used to seeing them they’ll be part of Brighton's great history themselves."

So what’s next?

"I’ve already designed some bespoke Brighton Icons for local businesses including a popular venue on the sea front and the Edward Street Quarter. They now have their very own bespoke Brighton Map art prints featuring their unique Brighton Icons placed at the location of their premises upon the map. I’m offering this unique icon+map product to Brighton businesses, venues and even individuals or families who can have mini portraits of themselves as part of their icons. I'd love to be able to publish a book one day featuring all of the icons including the personalised ones."

Are these images for sale anywhere?

"They're exclusively available at Lewes Map Store. There’s only 75 of each design so hurry if you want to own a one time only piece of Brighton ;) They will never be available as individual art prints again so once all 75 are gone they’re gone."
