This year we had an amazing summer already, with plenty of sunshine and wonderful warm evenings. Our school holidays have started, it's time to slow-down and enjoy much needed family time. I thought it would be a great idea to share some of my summer favourites to give you ideas of things to do and places to go...
MY SUMMER EVENING PICNIC
Or how to spend a perfect summer's evening, especially when it's still lovely and warm outside...We're so lucky to have the South Downs right on our doorstep, an idyllic location for an evening picnic. My friends and I headed up hill with blankets, lanterns and lots of yummy treats where we enjoyed the amazing views over Lewes, watched a magical sun set and moon rise.
DISCOVER APPLE TREE CABIN
If you don't live in Sussex, why not come down and visit Lewes? My friends Georgie and Martin Butcher have built a beautifully finished wooden cabin, which is for rent on Airbnb. Designed and created from locally sourced reclaimed wood and materials, it's a unique space and offers everything you need for a relaxing break. The cabin is about 10 minutes away from our beautiful picnic spot. Just ask Georgie and Martin where to find Jill's Pond and they will point you in the right direction. It's a truly stunning spot. MY SUMMER READ
'The Power' by award wining author Naomi Alderman, is a book with raving reviews. Apparently, if you enjoyed 'The Handmaid's Tale' (The TV series is currently running on Channel 4), this is the book for you. It's full of great characters that pull you into the story, along with being thought provoking and not for the faint-hearted.
MY SUMMER FESTIVAL RECOMMENDATION
The Good Life Experience , 15th - 17th September, is a wonderful festival celebrating the great outdoors, crafting, story telling, music, dancing, campfire cooking, vintage fairground rides and so much more for the whole family. Now in its fourth year, the festival was founded by musician and writer Cerys Matthews, record industry and art consultant Steve Abbott, farmers and authors Charlie & Caroline Gladstone, who also run Pedlars. Entertainment and activities are aimed at adults and children alike, which makes this family festival extra special. We went last year and loved every minute!
